The Challenges of Advanced Framing – Zoom- October 21st 2-3 pm – Sign up here

Builders will earn CEUs for this course. As energy codes become stricter, builders and designers are seeking options for energy-efficient construction that maintain strength, durability, sustainability and cost-effectiveness. One effective solution is advanced framing, a system of construction framing techniques that optimize material use and increase energy efficiency. Join APA’s Larry Oenning as he discusses common advanced framing techniques, the benefits of the system and typical challenges that builders encounter during the conversion from traditional framing to advanced framing.

Frame for Success – Zoom – October 28th 2-3:30 pm – Sign up here

Builders will earn CEUs for this course. Based on hundreds of job site inspections, APA staff have identified the most common wood construction framing and sheathing errors found in today’s construction market. This session examines the consequences of these common errors and provides practical solutions for avoiding them.

The four main learning objectives will be:

  1. Understand how the material properties of wood can affect construction in order to resolve common framing challenges.
  2. Understand how the consistency of design and building practices can impact the quality of wood structures and how to use consistency to improve construction.
  3. Learn how moisture affects wood products and how to prevent some common challenges arising from moisture exposure.
  4. Understand how wind or seismic forces impact the roof, walls, floors, foundation, and connections of a structure; the concept of a continuous load path; and its importance in structural integrity.
